2 Courses Required

This course provides skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and standard precautions. Includes vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children, and infants. Emphasis on infection prevention, patient identification, specimen labeling, quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, accessioning, professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology. Students who successfully complete the program will take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians national certification exam.

To get started, complete the pre-admissions application found at the right and provide the following eligibility requirements:

  • Minimum age of 18 years old prior to first class day
  • Minimum education of high school diploma or GED
  • Students my score 4 or higher on each of the three assessment areas. Workkeys assessments are given at both the Longview and Kilgore Campuses.

Once your application has been approved you must submit the following requirements before you will be allowed to enroll in the program.

  • Documentation of Immunizations
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - or IgG titer
    • TDAP (within 10 years)
    • Varicella (Chickenpox)- 2 doses or IgG titer
    • Influenza (if seasonal appropriate; October - March)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination- 3 doses or IgG titer
  • Current Negative Tuberculosis Skin Test (Within 6 months)
  • Current and Negative Drug Test- DATCS
  • Current and Clear Background Check- DATCS
