80 hours classroom and 20 hours clinical
This course will prepare for entry into a healthcare career as a Sterile Processing Technician, which will teach you the techniques, procedures and safety precautions of decontamination and sterilization of medical and surgical equipment/instruments as well as the distribution of supplies and equipment. After completion of this course students will be ready to sit for the certification exam with Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution Certification Examination (CBSPD) to begin a career in hospitals and surgery centers.
To get started, complete the pre-admissions application found at the right and provide the following eligibility requirements:
- Minimum age of 18 years old prior to first class day
- Minimum education of high school diploma or GED
- Students my score 4 or higher on each of the three assessment areas. Workkeys assessments are given at both the Longview and Kilgore Campuses.
Once your application has been approved you must submit the following requirements before you will be allowed to enroll in the program.
- Documentation of Immunizations
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - or IgG titer
- TDAP (within 10 years)
- Varicella (Chickenpox)- 2 doses or IgG titer
- Influenza (if seasonal appropriate; October - March)
- Hepatitis B vaccination- 3 doses or IgG titer
- Current Negative Tuberculosis Skin Test (Within 6 months)
- Current and Negative Drug Test- DATCS
- Current and Clear Background Check- DATCS
